How’s business? Business is really good right now. The market is extremely active especially among multifamily, industrial, and single-family developers.
What is the biggest deal you’ve done in the last five years? This is not the biggest deal I’ve done but it has been one of the most meaningful deals I’ve done in the last five years. We represented Depelchin, a non-profit foster care and adoption agency, in selling some of their excess land along Memorial near Shepherd. We were able to achieve a very good price for Depelchin to help them sell and monetize their land, so they can now use those funds to help further their mission in helping children.
What is one of the greatest challenges you have faced in your career? How did you overcome that? One of the most challenging times in my career was during the great recession. One of my partners, Tim Dosch, and I had just partnered up in 2008. The first half of 2008 was great and then the second half of the year we saw everything fall out of contract. The following two years were difficult years to be a land broker, and we closed very few deals.
How has the brokerage profession evolved or changed for you in the last 10 years? In today’s market, technology is playing a huge part in the real estate industry including mapping technology, CRMs and many others.
What advice would you have for someone looking to get in the industry? I believe networking and meeting as many people as you can is extremely important in the real estate industry. I also would tell them to be patient. I’m not saying not to be aggressive but understand that advancement and growth takes time. Trust that it will happen.
