Exclusive: Major Houston land team launches new brokerage

A team of land brokers with ARA Newmark Houston has embarked on a new venture specializing in land deals across the Bayou City and beyond.

Tim Dosch, David Marshall and Tom Dosch have left ARA Newmark Houston to launch a new land brokerage called Dosch Marshall Real Estate. The principals are joined by broker associates Clark Dalton, Becky Hand, Dillon Mills and Tripp Rich — all formerly with ARA Newmark, one of the largest multifamily investment brokerages nationally.

The land team was with ARA Newmark for a decade, where they brokered more than 200 land transactions worth more than $1.1 billion, including a trio of record-breaking land sales for new luxury apartment towers planned by Caydon Property Group, PM Realty Group and The Hanover Co. The land team collectively has more than 40 years of experience in the land business, and the principals have made Houston Business Journal’s Heavy Hitters List numerous times.

“It’s always been a dream of ours to own our own company,” said Tom Dosch, principal with Dosch Marshall Real Estate. “It’s something we’ve thought about for a long time and wanted to do. The timing was just right. We’re really excited about this new venture.”

Dosch Marshall Real Estate will represent both land sellers and buyers, including many residential developers, homebuilders and multifamily developers in Houston. The land brokerage is based in Houston, but plans to expand its business to major markets across Texas and select markets in other states like Alabama and Oklahoma. In time, the brokerage may add other property types, such as retail, office and industrial, officials said.

“A lot of our clients were asking us to go into other markets,” said David Marshall, principal with Dosch Marshall Real Estate. “We have enough bandwidth to broaden our reach.”

Dosch Marshall Real Estate is building out a new 3,000-square-foot office space at the Old Republic Title building, located at 777 Post Oak Blvd. in Uptown. The seven-employee brokerage hopes to move into its new space by the end of the summer. In the meantime, the land brokerage has temporary offices in the Stewart Title building nearby.

Dosch Marshall Real Estate, which launched this week, will close out any pending deals started under ARA Newmark. A representative with ARA Newmark could not be reached for comment. While there are no immediate openings on the team, Dosch Marshall Real Estate plans to make strategic hires for a couple of brokers as well as analysts, Marshall said.

“The hardest thing about this was leaving ARA Newmark and saying goodbye to everyone,” Tom Dosch said. “We have incredible respect for them, and they were an unbelievable company to work for. We were thinking about our next 30 years in the business, and thought this is the time for us.”
